2009 & 2017, US Inaugurations in Washington D.C.

In 2008, when Barack Obama was elected to be the 44th President of the USA, I decided to go to Washington to cover the Inaugural Ceremonies on and around January 20, 2009. Besides the incredible experience of just being there, I also had the chance totake pictures at the All-American Inaugural Ball (co-hosted by the Republican Party of Virginia). At both events, my focus was on the people, the participants. On the one hand, there were the liberal American and Afro-American people and the fed-ups of the Bush Years, and, on the other, the (mostly) Republicanside at the Inaugural Ball.

In 2016, when Donald Trump was elected, I was shocked, as were most people worldwide. I felt that this was an assignment to travel again to cover the event. Besides the Trump Inauguration, I also photographed the Women’s March on Washington on January 21. Again, the two opposing faces ofAmerican society.

Working title is “Thank you. God Bless You and God Bless America”. These words marked the end of both Inaugural Addresses, by Barack Obama and by Donald Trump.

I am not sure if this title is final. The current design of the book is not final neither.

The single pictures of the two inaugurations are not marked. You will easily see the difference, ... I hope.
